How we work

Editorial & Ranking Methodology.

How we choose providers, verify data, and rank plans — plus the limits you should know about.

Provider selection

We include a curated set of nationally available US home warranty providers. Selection is based on availability across multiple states, published plan and pricing information, complaint-handling history (BBB, state regulator filings where public), and the existence of a public claims process. We do not include every home warranty company operating in the United States.

Where our data comes from

Prices, service-call fees, coverage highlights, and add-on lists come from each provider's public plan documents, sample contracts, and marketing pages at the time of our review. Ratings and BBB standings come from third-party sources published by those organizations. We do not have internal claims data from providers.

Values change frequently. Every provider record shows a “Last verified” date. Anything unknown or that varies by plan/state is labeled “Varies by plan”, “Varies by state”, or “Not verified” rather than filled with a guess.

How rankings are built

Editorial rankings weight: (1) pricing transparency, (2) coverage breadth across systems and appliances, (3) service-fee flexibility, (4) contractor-network scope, (5) published claim handling, and (6) publicly available complaint and satisfaction signals. Advertising relationships are disclosed but do not change a provider's ranking on editorial lists. Any paid placement is labeled as such on the page where it appears.

Repair-cost examples

Repair-cost figures shown on the site are illustrative examples based on typical retail repair estimates, not guaranteed savings. Actual repair costs, coverage limits, exclusions, service fees, and claim approval vary by provider, plan, location, and contract.

Reviews

We only publish customer reviews after they clear moderation and can be attributed to a real submitter. We do not publish fabricated reviews. When we have not yet collected enough verified reviews for a provider, the reviews section says so plainly instead of showing placeholder testimonials.
